Lithium Ion Car Battery

Bowing to the clamor of a more efficient and environmentally friendly source of energy to power vehicles, technology companies are developing more powerful lithium ion car battery for hybrid and 100 percent electric vehicles.

Lithium ion batteries have been powering consumer devices for many years now. It can store tremendous amount of energy using a relatively lighter and lesser material compared to other battery components. Because of this advantage, scientists are looking at lithium ion battery to power the next generation of energy-efficient cars.

In fact, one electronic company based in Japan is developing a Super Charge lithium-ion battery that can charge to 90% capacity in just 5 minutes. This has the greatest potential for lithium ion car battery because people don't have the time to wait for so long to charge a hybrid car battery. A 100 percent electric car can reach maximum popularity and practicability once this lithium ion car battery is available in the market.

The company said that their lithium ion car battery is a lot safer than the existing lithium ion batteries in the market today. It could last approximately 5,000 charges, or ten years worth of use. It's highly unlikely to overheat and burst into flames; a common problem of lithium ion batteries that power laptops, cell phones, PDAs, etc. today. The company expected the sale of this battery in 2010.

Although top motor companies today already used lithium ion car battery to power some of their hybrid cars, but the technology is relatively at its infancy when it comes to powering cars. The number one complain of the people, which kills the popularity of electric cars, is that it takes too long to fully charge an electric car battery.

That is why the world is waiting for the unveiling of this breakthrough lithium ion car battery from the Japanese company.
